BanBajío Deploys 3,750 IP Cameras Nationwide Without High Costs, Complexity, or Downtime

3-minute read time

Summary

  • BanBajío needed to modernize security at more than 300 locations across Mexico without disrupting operations or incurring high infrastructure costs.
  • Integración Digital MIHO recommended NVT Phybridge’s Ethernet-over-Coax (EoC) solutions, along with a partial Ethernet-over-UTP network to enable a seamless migration to IP cameras using existing coaxial cabling; the new cameras added were installed using traditional UTP cabling with Flex at the bank’s various locations.
  • The bank reduced implementation time by 60%, cut infrastructure costs by 20%, and completed the implementation without technical difficulties.
  • By reusing its existing cabling, BanBajío minimized electronic waste and avoided unnecessary construction, aligning with its sustainability efforts.

Challenge

BanBajío, a leading financial institution headquartered in León, Guanajuato, wanted to modernize its analog security system across hundreds of buildings, which would have required costly, disruptive, and time-consuming infrastructure changes. BanBajío needed a modern, cost-effective networking solution to deploy Bosch IP cameras while maintaining business continuity.

Solution

Digital Integration MIHO recommended Ethernet-over-Coax and UTP innovations to overcome the project’s challenges. Phybridge’s NVT Ethernet-over-Coax extenders and switches offer up to 50 watts of power (PoE++) and 10/100 Mbps full-duplex symmetrical coaxial cabling with a range of up to 6,000 feet (1,830 m). After a few simple configuration steps, the EC-10 and FLEX8 switches transformed the existing coaxial infrastructure by combining it with UTP to provide a proven hybrid solution in a robust, secure, and high-performance PoE backbone network for the new Bosch IP cameras. By leveraging the existing coaxial infrastructure and supporting ongoing growth with new UTP technologies to meet the Bank’s specific needs. The implementation was simple, straightforward, and cost-effective, resulting in minimal disruption compared to a rip-and-replace model.

The rollout was carried out gradually, upgrading the infrastructure with a total of 3,750 IP cameras. The modern network approach ensured that each branch maintained a separate PoE-powered network, optimizing security system performance and reducing infrastructure costs. This approach provided a fast and reliable upgrade, minimizing network downtime and security risks for each branch during implementation.

Results

BanBajío successfully transitioned to a modern IP surveillance system while eliminating the challenges caused by traditional network limitations. The bank easily deployed 3,750 Bosch IP cameras thanks to a repeatable, predictable, and scalable deployment methodology. Implementation time was reduced by 60%, allowing branch upgrades to be completed in record time while maintaining full banking services. The organization reduced its overall costs by 20% by avoiding the costly and complex process of removal and replacement.

The project achieved 100% reliability, with no equipment failures during implementation, exceeding initial expectations. Additionally, the simplified deployment process reduced operating expenses, such as additional security personnel costs. Miguel Hidalgo Ornelas, of Integración Digital MIHO, reported high satisfaction with the technology, stating: “NVT Phybridge’s innovations allowed us to deliver an efficient and cost-effective IP camera deployment for BanBajío, exceeding their expectations and avoiding the high costs of a network overhaul.”

Sustainability

NVT Phybridge’s network innovations not only provided immediate financial and operational benefits but also aligned with BanBajío’s sustainability efforts. As outlined in its Carbon Footprint Report, BanBajío aims to reduce waste, emissions, and energy consumption. By reusing its existing coaxial infrastructure and avoiding large construction sites, the organization minimized electronic waste and reduced the project’s overall environmental impact.
