Challenge

The Fairmont Princess, a luxury resort in Scottsdale, AZ, faced the challenge of upgrading its communication infrastructure to meet modern standards while preserving industry-leading guest experiences and operational efficiency. The resort needed to replace 300 outdated analog phones with Mitel IP phones across its expansive 65-acre property. With distances between buildings reaching up to half a mile, the task was particularly difficult. The prospect of laying new cabling was cost-prohibitive and risked significant disruption to daily operations and guest experiences. Furthermore, the resort’s management was concerned about maintaining network security, particularly with the potential vulnerabilities of integrating voice communications onto the core network.

Solution

American Telephone Inc., the resort’s trusted solution integrator, recommended the NVT Phybridge PoLRE innovation to overcome the project’s critical challenges. The PoLRE switch allowed the resort to use the existing single-pair UTP wiring, rack space, cooling, and other supporting infrastructure, eliminating the complexity, extended deployment times, and disruption of a rip-and-replace strategy. The technology’s ability to provide Power over Ethernet (PoE) over distances up to 1,200 feet was crucial in covering the resort’s expansive grounds, ensuring that remote areas could be easily connected. The solution maintaining a separate network for communication and a point-to-point connection to each device. This physical separation ensured optimal security and performance of all the resort’s systems, alleviating the concerns about unauthorized network access and potential data breaches. “The cool thing about PoLRE is all the flexibility it gives us. It creates redundancies where needed, expands coverage, improves reliability, all while saving the client investment dollars,” says Martin Weisbrodt, Director of Business Development, American Telephone.

Result

The IP communication deployment was executed with remarkable speed and efficiency thanks to the PoLRE innovation. The entire upgrade was completed in just two days, far exceeding the resort’s expectations. This rapid deployment minimized disruption to guest services, helping the resort maintain its high standard of operations throughout the process. Fairmont Princess enhanced the guest experience by investing more budget in new capabilities through significant savings realized by adopting the PoLRE innovation. The solution allowed the resort to easily extend network coverage to all areas of the property, including the most remote locations.

The new Mitel IP phone system enhanced the guest experience by providing clearer, more reliable communications for room service, housekeeping, and concierge support. The seamless integration with other hotel systems enables faster response times and more personalized service, while the network’s built-in redundancy ensures uninterrupted communications. These improvements allow the Fairmont Princess to deliver the high level of convenience and service quality expected at a Fairmont resort, ultimately elevating guest satisfaction.

Sustainability

The choice to implement NVT Phybridge networking innovations not only provided immediate operational benefits, but also aligned with Fairmont Princess’s sustainability goals. By repurposing the existing single-pair UTP wiring, rack space, cooling, and other supporting infrastructure, the resort prevented more than 2 tons of electronic waste. This successful project exemplifies how technology innovations improve digital transformation return on investment and sustainability outcomes, making it a model for future projects within the hospitality industry.
