Kentucky Court Systems Deploys Hanwha IP Cameras Across Two Sites Without High Costs, Complexity, or Disruption
Summary
- Kentucky Court Systems needed to upgrade analog cameras to IP without high project costs or disruption to daily court operations.
- Schiller recommended NVT Phybridge network innovations to leverage the building’s existing coax infrastructure.
- The project was completed five weeks ahead of schedule with $40,000 in savings and zero technical issues.
- The court system reduced electronic waste and avoided the environmental impact of large-scale construction.
Problem
The Kentucky Court Systems needed to modernize its aging analog camera system to a state-of-the-art IP surveillance solution. However, the traditional rip-and-replace methodology posed significant challenges, introducing unnecessary disruption, construction activity, increased risk and complexity, and greater labor requirements. Pulling new cabling across multiple older buildings would also have added substantial costs and extended the deployment timeline. The court system needed a modern approach that avoided the pitfalls of a rip-and-replace while still delivering a seamless, reliable IP upgrade.
Solution
Schiller recommended using the NVT Phybridge CLEER24-10G switch innovation to enable a seamless IP camera upgrade without the pitfalls of ripping and replacing the existing coax-based infrastructure. With support from NVT Phybridge’s dedicated technical team, the integrators were able to easily identify and repurpose each cable run by simply attaching an adapter and deploying the new IP endpoints. This approach drastically reduced the deployment timeline and eliminated any disruption to courthouse operations.
The CLEER24-10G switch delivers up to 50 Watts of PoE++ and 10/100 Mbps symmetrical, full-duplex over coax with up to 6,000 ft (1,830 m) reach, 18 times farther than standard switches. With this Ethernet-over-Coax innovation, Kentucky Court Systems was able to deploy 125 new Hanwha IP cameras across two buildings and two locations – with no technical issues.
Results
The Kentucky Court System avoided the traps and pitfalls of the rip-and-replace methodology. The deployment timeline was reduced from an estimated 8 weeks to just 3, saving approximately $40,000. Aaron Lacy, Aaron Thompson, and Greg McClain from Schiller reported high satisfaction with the deployment, stating, “The NVT Phybridge switch innovation allowed us to deliver an efficient and cost-effective IP camera deployment for Kentucky Court Systems, exceeding their expectations while avoiding the high costs of a network overhaul.”
Having successfully completed the project, the Kentucky Court System is now exploring additional opportunities to use NVT Phybridge solutions in future modernization initiatives.
NVT Phybridge managed switches feature PowerWise® technology, enabling intelligent power sharing across interconnected switches to ensure continuous uptime. Combined with long-reach capabilities and robust PoE performance, these switches enhance system reliability, strengthen security, and reduce operational complexity. The NVT Phybridge CCMT configuration and management tool simplifies switch configuration, enabling bulk actions and automatic, easy firmware upgrades. These capabilities minimize downtime, streamline operations, and reduce ongoing switch management costs by up to 80%, helping organizations maintain a more resilient, efficient network environment.
Sustainability
NVT Phybridge network innovations not only delivered immediate financial and operational benefits but also supported the Kentucky Court Systems’ sustainability objectives. By leveraging the existing coax-based infrastructure, the courts avoided the environmental impacts of new material consumption, transportation, and disposal. The court system minimized electronic waste, reduced construction-related emissions, and preserved the building’s existing structure. Schiller plans to continue recommending NVT Phybridge network innovations to clients seeking smooth, effective, and eco-friendly digital transformation.
