Kitsap County Jail in Washington, a regional correctional facility housing both males and females, faced significant challenges with its existing analog camera system. The facility’s aging, analog surveillance solution was causing the county jail to struggle with poor resolution and video quality, compromising security. Given that Kitsap County Jail operates 24 hours a day and 7 days a week, any downtime or disruption in surveillance could pose serious security risks. The continuous nature of the facility’s operations meant that a reliable, high-quality surveillance system was crucial for ensuring the safety of inmates and staff. Additionally, the outdated system lacked the flexibility to add cameras in previously unmonitored areas, further hampering the ability to maintain comprehensive surveillance coverage. Upgrading to an IP-based system was critical to ensure high-quality surveillance, extended reach, and the flexibility to add cameras in previously unmonitored areas.
Solution
The reseller partner, Cornerstone Detention Products, recommended the NVT Phybridge CLEER24-10G switch innovation to address the facility’s IP migration challenges. Having successfully used NVT Phybridge products in prior IP deployments, Cornerstone Detention Products was confident in the solution’s ability to help the jail complete the IP surveillance deployment quickly, securely, and with minimal disruption to operations. The implementation included rack-mounting CLEER switches and connecting them to the existing network infrastructure. The transition from analog to IP cameras was seamless, with no significant disruptions reported. The solution provided a managed network with port trunking capabilities and robust security management. Additionally, the CLEER switches allowed for extended long-reach connectivity, enabling the placement of cameras in previously inaccessible locations.
“The deployment at Kitsap Corrections was a testament to the efficiency and reliability of NVT Phybridge solutions,” said Joshua Dugan, Cornerstone Detention Products. “The CLEER switches performed exceptionally well, and the facility has seen remarkable improvements in its surveillance capabilities. This project has solidified our trust in NVT Phybridge for future deployments.” The CLEER24-10G switch delivers up to 50 Watts of power (PoE++) and 10/100 Mbps symmetrical, full-duplex, over coax cabling with up to 6,000ft (1,830m) reach – 18 times the reach of standard switches.
Result
Cornerstone Detention Products leveraged NVT Phybridge Ethernet over Coax solutions to deploy over 250 new Bosch IP cameras, resulted in significant improvements and benefits for Kitsap County Jail. The CLEER24-10G switch innovation saved the facility over $1,000,000 by utilizing existing coaxial infrastructure and avoiding the costs of a complete overhaul, optimizing taxpayer funds and improving the project’s return on investment. Project timelines were also significantly reduced, allowing the jail to realize the benefits of the new IP cameras sooner than expected. The new IP cameras provided higher resolution images and feeds, improving overall security. Connecting multiple cameras to a single EC-04 adapter allowed for additional surveillance coverage, further enhancing security throughout the facility. Kitsap County Jail expressed high satisfaction with the solution, noting the significant improvements in security and the seamless digital transformation experience. The success of this deployment has set a precedent for future projects, with NVT Phybridge solutions being considered for other facilities.
