Luxury Jeweler Upgrades Retail Store Security in Line with Its Corporate Sustainability Objectives

3-minute read time

Summary

  • An American luxury jeweler wanted to modernize its outdated analog security system and deploy a new IP camera solution across several US retail locations.
  • Kris Jordan of Loss Detection Inc. recommended the NVT Phybridge CLEER24-10G switch to enable the new IP cameras using the existing and reliable coax-based infrastructure.
  • Loss Detection Inc. accelerated the loss prevention upgrade, saving over $90,000 while creating a robust and secure network aligned with its sustainability objectives, preventing approximately 10,500 pounds (about 4762.72 kg) of cabling e-waste.
  • Due to the project’s success, the American luxury jeweler is using NVT Phybridge Ethernet over Coax solutions to deploy IP cameras in its UK stores.

Problem

Several of the luxury jeweler’s US retail stores relied on an outdated analog camera system, which could no longer meet modern security and safety requirements. The organization decided it was time to deploy a new IP camera solution in its retail stores to improve security, keep staff and shoppers safe, and implement advanced loss prevention capabilities of an IP-based platform.

A coax-based network infrastructure supported the existing analog camera system. The luxury jeweler was concerned with the cost and business disruption associated with re-cabling the facility to support the new IP camera solution. The organization required an innovative solution to overcome its digital transformation barriers and modernize security without high network readiness costs, complexity, long deployment times, and business disruption.

Solution

Kris Jordan, the Vice President of Loss Detection Inc., discovered the NVT Phybridge CLEER24-10G switch and organized a proof-of-concept to test the solution on-site. The CLEER24-10G Ethernet over Coax switch delivers up to 50 Watts of power (PoE++) and 10/100 Mbps symmetrical, full-duplex, over coax cabling with up to 6,000ft (1,830m) reach – 18 times the reach of standard switches.

After a few simple setup steps, the CLEER24-10G switch transformed the existing coax-based infrastructure into a power-packed and robust PoE backbone with more than enough bandwidth to support the new IP cameras. Both Kris Jordan and the customer were impressed and decided to move forward with the digital transformation project.

Result

Loss Detection Inc. used the NVT Phybridge CLEER24-10G switch to deploy over 300 new IP cameras across 10 retail locations, with plenty of room to expand the system in the future. “Thanks to the CLEER24-10G switch, we were able to accelerate the IP migration while allocating infrastructure cost savings towards devices and applications, which significantly improved ROI and loss prevention measures,” said Kris Jordan, VP of Loss Detection Inc.

The CLEER24-10G switch helped the customer reduce its digital transformation costs by approximately USD $90,000 by leveraging its existing network infrastructure to simplify deployment and reduce unnecessary network readiness costs. The solution also eliminated business disruption and loss of revenue by avoiding the traditional rip-and-replace upgrade model and the associated complexity. The customer used Frost & Sullivan’s Modern LAN principles to maintain its physically separate network for the physical security solution to improve the security of the overall system.

Enabling Sustainable Digital Transformation

In line with the luxury jeweler’s sustainability objectives, the organization used the CLEER24-10G switch to leverage existing infrastructure assets to prevent 10,500 pounds of e-waste during its physical security digital transformation. Due to the project’s success, the luxury jeweler will use NVT Phybridge Ethernet over Coax solutions to deploy IP cameras in nine UK stores to improve loss prevention measures without high network readiness costs or business disruption.
