However, the Cruise Line was still relying on analog surveillance equipment throughout many of its cruise ships and was interested in modernizing to Axis IP to provide the safest travel experience for guests. The organization was interested in an IP-based system as it would provide high-resolution viewing and recording capabilities, improved monitoring, and better application management. The existing analog cameras were supported by a Coax-based infrastructure that ran throughout the ships. The organization considered removing the existing Coax and installing Ethernet cabling to support the new IP cameras, but became concerned with the high costs, long deployment times, and environmental impact. Unsatisfied with traditional network design limitations, the organization looked for an innovative solution.

Additionally, all crew members receive specialized environmental training and are responsible for ensuring environmental compliance in everything they do. As the organization planned its modernization to IP surveillance, environmental responsibility was also top-of-mind.

Modern LAN Design

Given the customer’s digital transformational objectives, the reseller partner, Surveillance International Inc., recommended Modern LAN design principles and the NVT Phybridge CLEER (Ethernet over Coax) solution. The CLEER switch, with SmartPathPoE™ technology, transforms any new or existing Coax-based infrastructure into a robust IP backbone ideal to support any IP camera, with reach capabilities up to 6,000ft (1,830m) – 18-times farther than a standard Ethernet switch.

The customer was impressed with the proposed solution and decided to move forward with the digital transformation. After a few simple setup steps, the CLEER24 switch transformed the existing and proven Coax infrastructure into a robust and reliable PoE backbone; capable of supporting the new Axis IP cameras in all areas of the ship. Also, the organization can now connect up to 4 IP cameras using a single Coax cable run using the NVT Phybridge EC4 Adapter.

After successfully deploying Axis IP surveillance throughout the first ship, the organization decided to replicate the success in several of its other liners. Thanks to Modern LAN design and the NVT Phybridge CLEER24 innovation, the customer was able to simplify the digital transformation and increase the number of cameras on-board its ships, which can carry a combined total of more than 19,000 travelers every voyage. The Ethernet over Coax solution allowed the customer to leverage its existing infrastructure to avoid the risky and complex rip & replace model.

The Cruise Line took a proactive approach to find new and better ways to support its digital transformation objectives in a financially and socially responsible manner.   • Deploy over 4,000 Axis IP cameras across eight cruise ships using the existing Coax-based infrastructure
  • Increase the number of IP cameras in all public areas using the EC4 Adapter that supports up to four IP cameras over a single Coax cable run

  • Ensure the purpose-driven network for surveillance was maintained and enhanced

Additionally, the Cruise Line can now support additional devices using the new IP-enabled local are network, including IP phones, IP speakers, and wireless access points.

An International Hotel and Resort Company Creates a Secure and Robust Surveillance Network Using NVT Phybridge FLEX Technology

The International Hotel and Resort Company was the world’s first luxury hotel brand. The organization opened its first hotel in 1949 and has since expanded across the globe to include a rich and varied portfolio. Each hotel has its own distinctive style, from iconic historic elegance to lavish resort destinations.

The organization’s luxurious resort in Cozumel, Mexico sits on a tropical Caribbean island surrounded by one of the world’s largest coral reef systems. Guests can enjoy the elegant beachside infinity pool, relax in the spa, or experience authentic cuisine at one of the many oceanside restaurants. However, the resort still required a robust surveillance system to ensure the safety of staff and guests.

The organization encountered several challenges as they planned the digital transformation. The resort had no existing surveillance system and needed to establish the necessary network infrastructure to support the Axis IP cameras. The organization was hesitant to consolidate the surveillance system and IP cameras onto the core business network, due to cybersecurity and network complexity concerns. There were also questions about how they would support the Axis IP cameras across the entire facility, given the 328ft (100m) reach limitations of standard Ethernet switches. The organization was not willing to disrupt guests with the construction of IDF closets and new cable conduits throughout the facility. Sports Center Changes the Conversation; Leverages Existing Infrastructure to Improve Their IP Modernization Outcomes

A Sports and Recreation Center in Mexico was relying on an outdated security system that could no longer provide the required capabilities. The organization decided to deploy a new Axis IP solution to provide the safest facility for healthy recreation. The center is a place where sports and culture come together to contribute to the physical, intellectual and social development of the community. Hayuelos Shopping Center is one of the largest commercial hubs in the Colombian capital, receiving more than one million visitors each month. Today the shopping center is host to a wide variety of shops and spaces throughout its 120,000 square meter facility, including a supermarket, a gym, a movie theatre, and an indoor go-kart track. Due to the expansion of the mall and the surrounding population, the analog surveillance system that was in place could not accommodate the growing demands of the mall, nor could it meet security and control challenges. Hayuelos Shopping Center required a modern IP surveillance system to ensure the safety of all staff and visitors.

Hayuelos Shopping Center is committed to environmental responsibility through their Haystacks program, which includes energy and water saving initiatives, wastewater treatment from food areas, and disposal sites for electronic waste. While planning the modernization of their surveillance system, the mall became very concerned with the project’s potential impact on the environment, especially ripping-and-replacing several tons of wiring throughout the building.   • Reuse 100% of the existing and reliable wiring infrastructure, which prevented 100,000ft of cable from entering a landfill. Eliminating the need to rip-and-replace also significantly reduced the amount of materials consumed and waste generated by the project.
  • Prevent the installation of new intermediate server closets by using innovative long reach PoE technology; reducing material and ongoing energy consumption from power and cooling devices.
  • Reduce the deployment time by 30%; decreasing the amount of travel to and from the mall during the modernization and minimizing the harmful emissions to the environment.
  • Install 166 new Axis IP cameras inside and outside the building; providing complete surveillance coverage and high-resolution footage to ensure the safety of all staff and visitors.
